Antique Silkscreen Glass

A beautiful piece of antique silkscreen glass would be a stunning addition to your glassware or antiques collection. Glassmakers use silkscreening to transfer an image onto a piece of glass. Often the silkscreening is very colorful and/or ornate. This method of decoration was and is used on items like antique clocks, vases and drinking glasses among other items. Silkscreening is now easier than ever thanks to today's technology, however years ago it was a very complicated process in which silk was stretched over a screen, treated with a substance to make it light sensitive, exposed to light then cleared of the substance to make areas where paint can be used.

Like with all pieces of antique glassware, silkscreened glass should be handled with care. Do not use the dishwasher to clean your glass as it is too harsh for antique glass and may also cause the silkscreened design to wear off. Use lukewarm water and a soft cloth to clean your glass if it gets dirty. Dry the glass with a lint-free cloth to prevent small particles of lint from sticking to the glass. This type of glass looks stunning when displayed in a lighted curio as part of a collection. There are many old pieces you may want to acquire.

One company that produced gorgeous silkscreened glass around the 1940s is Cambridge. Their Apple Blossom pattern is beautiful and often sought after by glassware collectors. You may also want to look into newer pieces of silkscreened glass such as whimsical drinking glasses adorned with colorful artwork. Often these glasses come in a set and may gain in value over the years especially if they are collectible in some way. If you are new to the world of glassware, the best thing to do is browse around and see what captures your interest.

Using the Internet is a great way to find many different antique silkscreen glass pieces. These days the Internet is like a worldwide shopping mall where you can track down anything your heart desires. There are specialty antique shops and even sites like Ebay where you can find all kinds of antique glass pieces including those featuring silkscreened designs.
